Digital safety

Knowing to care about your online security is the first step in cybersecurity and digital safety.

Your safety is basically in your hands, if you consider security best practices and put them in place, it becomes more difficult for threat actors to succeed because you have put processes in place rendering their attacks less effective.

Cyber hygiene is the way to achieve this and follow security best practices.

The Password

A foot in the door is all needed to get into a house, and the same applies to threat actors. When proper password hygiene is not observed, it is easier for cybercriminals to operate and it also affects the threat surface.

For a strong password with at least eight symbols, it is better to include mixed symbols with uppercase, lowercase, and special symbols.

Avoid using the same password on different sites it makes the effort to invade your digital privacy easier.

Software Patches and Upgrades

It is great to upgrade as soon as possible, especially when prompted for a software or OS upgrade regardless of what device it may be your mobile, laptop, or browser. When you ignore these prompts you may be allowing threat actors access to your data.

Backup your data

Put a disaster recovery plan in place, and back up your data in a secure place. Peradventure you are affected and infected with malware you have a contingency plan in place to take care of the situation and are not pressured into doing anything you don't want to.
